The struck pendant is my response to considering summer. When I think of summer, I think of opportunity. I think of the ease and comfort of it, and can't help but compare it to the darker months. Summer is a moment that wants to be grasped, but it's so brief and fleeting, like the lifespan of an ignited match.
 
The burnt matchstick represents how quickly these blessings are gone and a need to celebrate the summer of our life, while it is here. It reminds us to cultivate gratitude for the things we have, before they are gone, and to collect memories and to think of them often especially in order to sustain ourselves through bleaker times.
 
This pendant realistic burnt match stick replica was created using recycled silver. The scrap silver and grain has been melted down to create the square wire they are constructed from, and the burnt end of the match is created through melting, shaping and reticulating the metal. This pendant can be purchased with or without an 18" belcher chain and comes in two finish options.
 
The pendant measures approximately 2mm in diameter and 40mm in length. Essentially, the burnt match is life size. The chain offered as an option is an 18" medium weight belcher chain. (If you are interested in different chain options, please get in touch before ordering to discuss.)
